Chopard's History: Long and straight road to success.
In 1860 Louis-Ullysse Chopard established a watch company in a small village, called Sonvilier in the Swiss Jura on the road that connected St. Imier with La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1963 when Paul-Andre Chopard was forced to give up the family business since his sons had followed different careers and refused to manage the family business, Karl Scheufele, a goldsmith and watchmaker took over Chopard. The company got into a period in which, by also adding a jewellery segment, it was modernized by the new ideals of its new owner. In 1975, when moving to Meyring-Geneva, it started producing ladies and jewellery timepieces. Five years later, Chopard started producing sports watches on leather straps. In 1988, Chopard established the cooperation with the Mille Miglia and annual Italian rally. Since then, it has maintained the tradition of developing a new special edition of Mille Miglia timepiece every year.
Chopard also developed its own movement called LUC after Chopard's founder, Louis-Ullysse Chopard. The first LUC movement was the LUC 1.96, designed and created in Fleurier, close to Sonvilier. After 130 years, Chopard has maintained its glorious reputation according to manufacturing top quality gold watches.
